Terms of Service

The agreement between you and us. Plain language, no surprises buried in a subclause.

The agreement

These terms are the agreement between you and Grepticon, called “we” and “us” below. They cover grepticon.com, the console at app.grepticon.com, the documentation at docs.grepticon.com, and the Grepticon API and SDK. We call all of that the service.

By creating an account or using the service you accept these terms. If you are accepting on behalf of a company, you confirm you have the authority to bind it, and “you” means that company. If you do not accept these terms, do not use the service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data, and it forms part of this agreement.

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 and able to enter into a contract where you live.
  • Give us accurate information and keep your email address current, because that is how we reach you about security and billing.
  • Your API keys and access tokens are yours to guard. Anything done with them counts as done by you. Revoke a credential in the console the moment you suspect it has leaked, and tell us if you think your account has been compromised.
  • One account belongs to one person or one company. Do not share sign-in credentials.

Your content stays yours

You keep every right you already hold in the files you upload. We claim no ownership of them.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, index, and transmit your files, but only as far as is needed to operate the service for you and keep it secure. That license ends when you delete the content or close your account. We do not use your content to train AI models.

You are responsible for what you upload: that you have the right to upload it, and that doing so breaks neither the law nor anyone else's rights. Do not upload data you are not permitted to place on a third-party service, and do not upload regulated data such as protected health information or payment card data unless we have agreed in writing to handle it.

Acceptable use

Use Grepticon for lawful purposes, and do not:

  • break, probe, or work around our security, rate limits, quotas, or workspace isolation;
  • try to reach another customer’s workspace or data;
  • upload content that is illegal, that infringes someone’s rights, or that carries malware;
  • resell or white-label the service as your own without our written agreement;
  • scrape or copy the service in order to replicate it;
  • direct load at the service that is designed to degrade it for other customers.

We may throttle or block traffic that threatens the stability of the service for everyone else.

Plans, billing, and cancellation

Free plan
Free, no card required, subject to the quotas published on our pricing page. We may change what the Free plan includes, with notice.
Paid plans
Billed monthly in advance through Stripe, in US dollars, renewing automatically until you cancel. Taxes are added where they apply.
Cancelling
Cancel any time from the console. Your plan keeps running until the end of the period you already paid for, then drops to Free. We do not refund partial months.
Price changes
We will email you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect. Early-adopter pricing holds for as long as the subscription stays active; if it lapses, the then-current price applies.
Failed payments
If a payment fails we retry and email you. If it stays unpaid, we may move your account down to the Free plan.

If something we did broke the service for you, write to us and we will make it right. We do not otherwise give refunds.

Limits and fair use

Each plan carries quotas (workspaces, storage, files per workspace, and maximum file size) and rate limits, all published on our pricing page and in the documentation. Quotas fail a write with a clear error rather than dropping data silently, and rate limits return HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. We may adjust the published limits, and we will tell you before lowering one that affects you.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Grepticon up, but we do not offer a service level agreement on the Free or Pro plans; an Enterprise agreement can include one. We may change, add, or remove features. If we plan to remove something you depend on, or to shut the service down, we will give account holders at least 30 days notice by email, along with time to export your data.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using Grepticon whenever you like. To close your account, email support@grepticon.com; our Privacy Policy covers what then happens to your data.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that goes unpaid, or that puts the service or other customers at risk. Unless the breach is serious or the law requires us to act immediately, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of anything you prepaid.

Our intellectual property

The service itself, including the software, the documentation, this site, and the Grepticon name and logo, belongs to us. These terms give you the right to use the service, not a right to our intellectual property. Our TypeScript SDK is published separately under the MIT license, and that license, not this section, governs what you may do with it.

Feedback is welcome, and we may act on it freely without owing you anything for it.

Disclaimers

The service is provided as is and as available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that the results returned by ls, find, cat, and grep will be complete or fit your purpose. You remain responsible for what your agents do with the data we return.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, revenue, or data, even if warned that they were possible.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is capped at the greater of one hundred US dollars or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event that gave rise to the claim.

You will defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your content, or from your use of the service in breach of these terms.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Governing law and notices

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the state and federal courts located there have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force.

Send legal notices to support@grepticon.com. We will send ours to the email address on your account.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top, and if a change is material we email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. Keeping on using the service after that date means the new terms apply to you. If you do not agree with them, cancel before they take effect.
